Chapter 35: ACCIDENT PROCEDURES
Queensland Transport advise that if you are involved in a car crash, you have the following legal obligations:
STOP
Stop immediately and if possible park safely.
PROTECT
Protect the scene to avoid another crash.
Use hazard lights and headlights to warn approaching traffic.
HELP
Help anybody that is injured.
CALL
Call 000 (in Australia) if anyone is injured or if the situation is dangerous.
REMOVE
Remove debris/obstructions from the road provided you do not put yourself in danger.
GIVE
Give your name, address, the vehicle owner's name and the registration number of the vehicle you were driving to all other drivers involved.
Make sure to get this information from these people as well.
REPORT
Report the crash to the nearest Police station if anyone was injured and the police did not attend the scene, or if the driver of the other vehicle was not present.
If you do not stop and give assistance after being involved in an accident, you could be jailed and/or lose your licence for up to 2 years.
